Ravenna mosaics<\/a><\/b><\/i><\/u><\/p>\n Beginning in the early 5th century, Ravenna was the capital three times: in the last moments of the Western Roman Empire (402-403), during the reign of the Goths under Theodoric (493-526), and then, under Byzantine rule (553-751).<\/p>\n Ravenna preserves the remains of the Father of the Italian Language Dante Alighieri, and keeps his memory alive throughout the year with important dedicated events.<\/p>\n The territory around the city, which is the second largest in Italy, has a remarkable variety of landscapes, some of them extremely beautiful: a wide cultivated countryside, valleys and canals lined by characteristic fishing huts, and pine forests overlooking sandy and equipped beaches.<\/p>\n Nature and hiking enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Po Delta Park, observing the multitude of rare bird species that find refuge here.<\/p>\n One can choose, for example, the Oasis of Punte Alberete, the historic pinewoods of San Vitale and Classe, the NatuRa Museum of Sant’Alberto, the Southern Valley of Comacchio, or a canoe trip to the oases of Ortazzo and Ortazzino and the mouth of the Bevano.<\/p>\n In addition to visiting the eight Unesco World Heritage monuments (Basilica of San Vitale, Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Neonian Baptistery, Chapel of St. Andrew or Archbishop’s Chapel, Arian Baptistery, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, Mausoleum of Theodoric, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe), Ravenna’s cultural offerings are rich and varied all year round.<\/p>\n There are many places to see: you can visit the MAR – Ravenna Art Museum, which in addition to its permanent collections (such as the Contemporary Mosaics Museum) organizes high-profile events and temporary collections; or the Tamo Museum – Tutta l’Avventura del Mosaico (All the Adventure of Mosaics), housed inside the San Nicol\u00f2 complex, with its permanent exhibition dedicated to the art of mosaics from antiquity to the contemporary age; or visit the National Museum of Ravenna with its rich collections, including Roman and Byzantine artifacts from local excavations.<\/p>\n In addition to the many already mentioned, you can also visit the Archbishop’s Museum, the Dante Museum with artifacts related to the cult and fame of Dante Alighieri, and the Byron Museum, linked to the memory of the English poet, which collects engravings, documents, objects from the Risorgimento and memories of Garibaldi.<\/p>\n A must-see is the striking “Zone of Silence” hidden in the center of the city.<\/p>\n The area includes Dante’s tomb, the Quadrarco di Braccioforte<\/span> and the Basilica of San Francesco. Every year in September, this area hosts a series of spectacular celebrations and events that pay homage to the Supreme Poet.<\/p>\n The silent halls of the Classense Library display important items related to Lord Byron and other important historical figures who stayed in the city. In addition, the library houses a huge collection of books and manuscripts, making it one of Italy’s most prestigious library institutions.<\/p>\n The Ravenna Planetarium is located within the city’s Public Gardens, which, almost as a frame, overlook the 16th-century Loggetta Lombardesca, home of the MAR Museum. The Rocca Brancaleone, from the Venetian era, houses a flourishing garden and an arena for outdoor performances.<\/p>\n Ravenna’s importance between the 5th and 6th centuries is evidenced by the precious mosaics preserved in its ancient late Christian and Byzantine buildings. Eight of these monuments have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for their universal value, uniqueness, and mastery of mosaic art.<\/p>\n However, there are many places of artistic and archaeological interest that have marked the city’s past, such as the Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra, the Ancient Port of Classe, and the recent Classis Ravenna – Museum of the City and Territory.<\/p>\n The small, quiet town of Porto Corsini lies north of the port of Marina di Ravenna, from which it is divided by the Corsini Canal, the final end of the Ravenna Dock, a trait d’union between the city and the sea.<\/p>\n Porto Corsini is nowadays one of the most important cruise port for the Adriatic sea… the best cruise companies decided to moore their ships here, like MSC Cruise line<\/a>, Cunard Line, NCL Norvegian Cruise Line<\/a> and many more…<\/p>\n Connected to the latter by a ferry service, it is also easily reached from the former Byzantine capital by taking the long Via della Baiona, which runs along the Pialassa of the same name.<\/p>\n Despite the passage of time, little Porto Corsini has retained the peaceful character that comes from having been a fishing village in the past.<\/p>\n Today, modernity has disrupted its origins-such as the construction of a cruise terminal, a landmark for the Mediterranean cruise circuit-but it certainly has not changed its character.<\/p>\n Considered the oldest of the Ravenna shores, Porto Corsini is mostly a destination for tourism that seeks the sea and direct contact with nature, thanks to the rich backdunal pine forest that characterizes its coastline.<\/p>\n It is no coincidence, in fact, that in the same way as nearby Casalborsetti, it offers several areas and RV stops for free and direct, no-frills tourism.<\/p>\n In Porto Corsini, however, people come above all for one of the widest beaches on the entire Riviera, studded with bathing establishments and equipped facilities but also large stretches of sand where they can lie freely in the sun, without any obligation.<\/p>\n Porto Corsini’s breakwater is perhaps the most symbolic element-along with the pine forest-of the entire resort. It is a long pier (about 3.5 km) projecting into the heart of the Adriatic Sea that, together with that of Marina di Ravenna, has the function of protecting the entire port area behind it.<\/p>\n Frequented by fishermen and runners, it is an excellent vantage point for enjoying the beauty of the sea, and is a real invitation to walk or bike, in winter as well as in spring or autumn.<\/p>\n If you are, on the other hand, a history lover, a visit to the Capanno Garibaldi located along Via Baiona, where Giuseppe Garibaldi found refuge during his famous escape from the Austrians, or the Isola degli Spinaroni, a strip of land set in the Pialassa della Baiona, linked to the liberation battle of Ravenna during World War II, is recommended.<\/p>\n Beyond the sea, the resort offers plenty of activities. They range from classic beach volleyball and beach tennis to water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing, not to mention sailing sports.
